Device Compatibility |
|
DJ-1800 should work with all major internal, USB and FireWire output devices under OS X (as long as the device supports CoreAudio and QuickTime playback). The devices listed below are those which we have tested with DJ-1800 ourselves. The versions of Mac OS X, QuickTime and DJ-1800 used during our testing are listed below each device.
If you're not sure whether your device works with DJ-1800, then please download the demo and try it out! The demo of DJ-1800 is fully-featured apart from the 30 minute timeout, and so it is a good test of compatability with your hardware.

Audio Hardware |
|
For each device, we have indicated whether that device is appropriate for DJ-1800's "Dual + Mixer" and "Multi Thru" modes:
Dual + Mixer mode uses DJ-1800's internal software mixer rather than an external hardware mixer. You select one stereo output for the Master output of this mixer, and another stereo output for the Headphones output. These stereo outputs can be on the same hardware device if you want, though they don't have to be.
Multi Thru mode doesn't use DJ-1800's internal software mixer. Instead, each CD Player is routed directly to a stereo output on an attached audio device. So, if you had an M-Audio FireWire 410 (see below), which has four stereo outputs, you could route each of DJ-1800's four CD players to a different stereo output on the FireWire 410.

| Outputs: 1 x Stereo Analog | Dual + Mixer mode: Perfect (and cheap) | Multi Thru mode: No |
|
| If you are starting out in DJing, and want to find the cheapest and best way to get started with stereo mixing, we recommend using DJ-1800 with the Griffin iMic. The iMic provides a second high-quality stereo output channel for your Mac, via a standard USB port, allowing full stereo Cue + Master output without the need for an external mixer. It's also very cheap!

The Edirol FA-101 is perfect for using with DJ-1800 and an external mixer in 'Multi Thru' mode. The FA-101 has four analog stereo outputs - one for each of DJ-1800's CD Players. If you have a four-channel DJ mixer, then you can route each CD player to a separate channel on the mixer.
Alternatively, the FA-101 can be used with DJ-1800's internal mixer in 'Dual + Mixer' mode. You can use one of the FA-101's stereo outputs for DJ-1800's Master output, and one for the Cue output. The FA-101's amplified headphone output socket can be used for cueing in noisy live environments.

The GIGAPort AG is perfect for using with DJ-1800 and an external mixer in 'Multi Thru' mode. The GIGAPort AG has eight mono RCA outputs, giving four stereo pairs in total - one for each of DJ-1800's CD Players. If you have a four-channel DJ mixer, then you can route each CD player to a separate channel on the mixer.
Alternatively, the GIGAPort AG can be used with DJ-1800's internal mixer in 'Dual + Mixer' mode. You can use one of the GIGAPort's stereo outputs for DJ-1800's Master output, and one for the Cue output. The GIGAPort also has a headphone output socket, which mirrors output chanels 1 and 2, although the headphone socket does not have a separate volume control. The headphone socket can be used to provide optical output from channels 1 and 2.
